April 15, 2021 - Herndon, VA - Herndon Youth Soccer announced Michael Franks as Director of Goalkeeping for the club’s travel program. Franks has been a longtime coach with HYS and will bring an incredible amount of experience to the new role.
"Michael is the perfect fit to lead our new goalkeeping program and we are thrilled for him to support our club in this capacity. He brings great energy, passion, and disciplined professionalism to this role, and there is no doubt he will transform goalkeeper development in Herndon to benefit the goalkeepers, teams and the club,” said Technical Director Nick Arzani.
Franks has coached for several teams in Herndon since 2005 and has over 25 years of soccer experience, including licensing and education from several institutions such as the KNVB, USSF and United Soccer Coaches. During his playing career, he was regarded as the top recruited goalkeeper in Western Pennsylvania. He was a standout high school state championship goalkeeper and four-year PA West State ODP team and Region 1 ODP goalkeeper. He continued to earn recognition playing college soccer, receiving all-conference honors at both Coastal Carolina University (NCAA Div. I) and Mercyhurst University (NCAA Div. II).
“I’m delighted to continue my tenure at Herndon as the Director of Goalkeeping. I look forward to developing our goalkeepers, and supporting the exciting changes happening within the club,” Franks said.
In addition to training and curriculum development, Frank’s director role will include providing in-game evaluations and feedback to both players and coaches, assisting with pre-game warm-ups, halftime instructions and overseeing classroom curriculum of game analysis and film review.
