Three Herndon Teams Win League Championship to Advance to USYS Regionals; Two Teams Still in the Hunt with State Cup Championship June 5-6

Herndon Sends Five Teams to USYS League Championship Playoff This Weekend; Two Teams Advance to State Cup Championship Weekend June 5-6

May 24, 2021 -- Three of five Herndon teams advance to the USYS Eastern Regional Championships after winning the USYS League Championship playoff this past weekend. The 2002b Argentinos, 2005g Force and the 2006b Estudiantes Black won their respective semifinal and final games to earn their place in Regionals. The 2006g Lightning Black and 2008 Ajax Black both lost in the finals on Sunday after strong semifinal performances.

The USYS League Championship is a unique pathway to Regionals for teams at the top of CCL standings who are knocked out of State Cup but can still qualify for Regionals by winning a playoff against top teams in other leagues.

These teams, along with the 2003g Hurricanes Black, will compete in the USYS Eastern Regional Championships June 25-July1. Hurricanes Black automatically advanced to Regionals after winning their State Cup in the fall. Winners of Regionals will then play in the USYS National Championships July 20-25.

Two other Herndon teams--the 2007g Alianza Black and 2008b Ajax Black--still have a chance to advance to Regionals. If Alianza wins their semifinal game, they will move on to Regionals either as champion in the finals or as a finalist through a wild card. The U13 Ajax must win their State Cup outright to go to Regionals.
