Spring Season: The Herndon Elite opened up its spring season in Williamsburg to play in the 1st Annual President’s Day Cup.  Playing up in the U15 bracket ,  the first game was against U15 FASA United. The Elite controlled the game and came away with a 2-0 victory. Charlotte scored on a direct kick in the 1st half and Darbie knocked one in from the top of the 18 in the 2nd half.

Game two was against U15 Pennsylvania Soccer Academy, an all-star team from the Academy. Both teams had many chances but could not finish; final score 0-0.

Sunday morning against a U14 VCCL all-star team, the Elite controlled the game and finally scored when Murielle beat the goalie and a 2nd goal off a corner kick by Darbie that Charlotte knocked in for a 2-0 victory and on to the finals.

The U15 Va Legacy Phoenix rolled easily in preliminary rounds of the other bracket, winning by scores of 2-0, 1-0, & 2-0. The Legacy Phoenix showed why they are ranked 5th in U15 age group of Virginia.  The Elite knew they were in for a tough game. The Elite scored 1st with Innis making a beautiful cross just outside the 6yd box and Murielle headed it into the goal for 1-0 lead. It was the 1st goal scored on the Phoenix in the tourney. Ten minutes later the Phoenix scored on a strike from outside the 18yd line to upper right corner of the net, making it 1-1 to end the half. The Phoenix went ahead 2-1 on a corner kick. Within two minutes the Elite tied the score as the ball was played up to Charlotte with her back to goal. She fought off the defender, turned and drilled it in for 2-2 tie. With seven minutes left in game the Phoenix found an open net to make it 3-2 and come away with the victory. It truly was a very exciting final match.

Jan-2009 - The Elite would like to welcome Lexy, her parents, Mike and Jennifer, to the Elite family. For the past 5 years, Lexy has played goalie for LMVSA and Mclean Power.   She was also the starting goalie for the Washington Freedom Super Y U13 team that went to National finals in Florida. We are excited about Lexy bringing her knowledge and expertise of soccer to our team.

Dec 2008 -The Elite would like to welcome Harleigh, her parents, Dave and Kim, to the Elite family. For the past 5 years, Harleigh has played striker and midfield for the U13 Loudoun Freedom.    We are excited about Harleigh bringing her excellent footskills and speed to the Elite team. Harleigh is joining her older sister, Charlotte, on the Elite. The Elite family wish you the best of luck this coming season.

Fall 2008

Champions Dulles National - U14 premier Division

Herndon Elite U14 girls came away with the 2008 Dulles National tournamnet. The Elite won all four (4) games. On Saturday, the Elite played PWSI Courage 94 and came away with 1-0 victory. In the afternoon, the Elite played always strong NVSC Jr. Majestics.  With 8 mintues left in the game the Elite were losing 1-0. But in those 8 minutes the Elite scored 2 goals resulting in tremendous comeback victory.

On Sunday, Elite played Herndon Fusion and won 2-1. That meant the Championship would be against the Majestics. The Elite came to play and were winners 4-1 to win Championship in the U14 Girls Premier Division. What a great job by the girls especially since they played the whole tournament with only 2 subs.

Next stop - Atlanta Cup.

US Club Soccer Region B (NJ) Championships

The Herndon Elite traveled to New Jersey to play in the Region B Championship. The Elite were put in the Super Group.

First game was against the Freestate Elite 94 (Md). Freestate had been playing excellent soccer and a tough match was inevitable. The Elite prevailed 3-2.

Second game was against FC Delco Black (PAE). FC Delco had just recently merged with Deep Run so again a tough match was expected. The Elite won 2-1.

Third game was against Soccerop 94 (NC), who were no match against the Elite.  Elite finished with a 5-1 victory and were on through to the semi-finals.

Semi-Finals: The four teams in this round were Mt. Laurel Crush (NJ), CYA Firecats, Freestate and Elite.  Both games were a rematch ... with the Elite facing Freestate.  After regulation and two overtimes the score was tied 2-2. The Elite made their first 4 PKs and came away with a 3-2 final score victory. It was now on to the Finals.

Championship game was against Mt Laurel Crush 94 who had beaten the Firecats in their semi-final game.  Score after regulation was 0-0. Score after two 10-minute overtime periods was 0-0.   Once again, the Elite faced PKs.  It turned out to be something for the record books! After five from each team had taken PKs it was still tied. So they had to go to round 6. FIFA rules state all 11 players must take PKs before you go back to original 5. After 11 players from each team (including both goalies) had taken their PKs, it was still tied. So back to the original five for each team. Again these 10 girls tied and it was onto round 17 and 18. 18 rounds meant 36 PKs had been taken.  The Elite were kicking 2nd, and had several chances to win it, but missed or the Mt. Laurel goalie saved.  The Elite goalie made several clutch saves to keep the PKs going.  Mt laurel finally prevailed as the winner with the score posted as 1-0. It was a heartbreaker to lose that way, but all the girls played awesome and deserved lots of praise.  They walked away with their heads held high.
