Herndon is a remarkably diverse community that enriches our recreational program and ultimately impacts our travel program. The Herndon travel program supports more than 45 travel teams, with the first (Black) and second (Red) teams in each age group competing in the Club Champions League (CCL) Premiership and Championship, and our third teams in NCSL. Some individual teams also play in EDP.
Our club takes great pride in cultivating home-grown talent, retaining many players who have found success on our travel teams since developing in the club at U5. The foundation of travel soccer is nurtured through the recreational program from U5-U8, with professional staff helping to foster a love of the game through fun and competitive development. The U5 Microkicks Program and U7/U8 Premier Program began in 2000 and were the first of its kind in the area, with both programs being led by professional coaches. The current Premier Program serves as a pre-travel program with additional advanced training and will be expanded in the 2021-22 season in our Youth Pathway program with year-round elite training.
We have produced numerous state championship teams, competitive tournament champions and league champions. Countless players in our travel program have gone on to play college soccer, and quite uniquely, one former travel soccer standout currently plays in the NBA (Dallas Mavericks rookie Josh Reaves guard). A great benefit of playing in the Club Champions League for U15 teams and older is the opportunity to participate in the CCL College Showcases and Combines—annual events that draw top college coaches from around the state.
