The recreational league is built on volunteer coaches, please consider registering as a volunteer coach for your child's team. 

An insufficient number of coaches may delay the formation of teams until we can secure adequate coaching staff for each group. So, if you have any interest in coaching or know someone within our community who might be willing to volunteer their time, please register as a volunteer by signing in at the link below. We appreciate any efforts to help us ensure a successful and enjoyable soccer season for our youth.

The online registration system will assign your child an age group according to birth year.

Registration Dates and Fees:

December 1^st – February 24^th: Online Registration Fee $150

February 25^th – March 1^st: Online Late Registration Fee $175

Feb 10^th: 10:00-2:00 pm; In-person Registration at the Herndon Community Center - Parents can get help with online registration, ask questions, register for those paying cash.

Financial Aid is available for players who qualify. Players must show proof of qualification. If you apply during online registration, you will be charged a reduced fee of $50 (or $75 if registering after Feb. 24^th) and must submit the appropriate proof. If they are not received, players will be charged the full balance before being allowed to participate. For information on the financial aid process and qualifications, click here.

Special Requests:

Requests for (1) a particular coach, (2) a friend to be on the same team or (3) day/time practice conflicts MUST BE NOTED ON YOUR REGISTRATION.  We cannot guarantee we can honor your request, but we will certainly try!  Requests not noted in your online registrations will be difficult to meet.

2024 Fall Season Calendar:

March 9: Coaches meeting. All Teams U4 – U19.

By March 15^th: You will be contacted by your child’s coach, informed of practice days/times.

March 25th: Practices may begin.

April 6th: First games of the season.

June 1^st or June 8^th: Last games of the season.

June 15^th - 16^th: All Star Tournament.

All U7 and older age groups will form teams comprised of the selected players in each age group to represent Herndon in an All-Star Tournament. Additional fee required (ask Joe for fee).

U4 - U10 Game Dates: April 6 - June 1 (no games Memorial Day weekend).

U11 - U19 Game Dates: Games may begin April 6th, exact schedule dates to be communicated directly by coaches.

Practices and Games:

• For ages U4/U5, practices and games are combined to once a week and led by an HYS professional coach with US Youth Soccer license. Games are on Saturdays, however, a make-up game on Sunday may occur.
• For ages U6, practices are once a week on a weekday and led by an HYS professional coach with US Youth Soccer license. Games are overseen by an HYS professional coach in conjunction with the volunteer coaches of each team. Games are on Saturdays, however, a make-up game on Sunday may occur.
• For ages U7-U10, Herndon has 6-10 teams in each age group; a volunteer coach oversees each team. The coach is responsible for holding 1 practice a week. Teams will play a game against another Herndon team every Saturday, always at the same Herndon field, for a total of 8 games. A make-up game on Sunday may occur.
• For ages U11-U19, Herndon participates in NCSL's newly formed recreational league (formerly SFL). Teams will have home games at various Herndon fields and also away games at fields throughout Northern Virginia. NCSL will establish the schedule around 2-3 weeks before the first games. The HYS’ team coach will be responsible for conveying that schedule to the parents of his or her rostered players. Games are on Saturdays but there may be a make-up game on Sunday.

Uniform:

• U4-U6 players receive one HYS jersey.
• U7-U10 players receive two HYS jerseys, one home and one away.
• U11-U19 players must purchase an HYS jersey from Sterling Soccer Supplies with a jersey number that is given to them by their coach. If players already have a jersey from the previous season, and their jersey number is ok’d by their coach, they do not need to purchase another. 

Equipment:

Shin guards are mandatory, and all players should bring a ball to practice. Soccer cleats are not mandatory but are recommended.

• U4-U8: Size 3 ball
• U9-U12: Size 4 ball
• U13-U19: Size 5 ball

Coaching:

Our Recreational League is only as large and vibrant as our volunteers make it so. We need volunteers to be coach or assistant coach.  Please register online by early to mid-February, Age Group Coordinators will contact those who have volunteered and work with them to organize teams. In early March, the HYS Recreational League Manager will hold Coaches Meetings for all volunteer coaches at which all will be explained.

HYS professional coaches will run 2 coaching clinics for volunteer coaches before the start of the season, March 15 & April 5.

Refunds for Spring Season:

If you decide to cancel your registration before April 1st, please contact registrar@herndonyouthsoccer.org to request a refund.  All refunds issued will still be charged a processing fee of $5.  In order to ensure a spot on the team, please register by February 24th.  If registering after February 24th, spaces on teams will be limited, therefore players registering late may be placed if there is space available. If no space is available, refunds will be given minus the processing fee of $5. No refunds will be given after April 1^st.
