story & mission

Herndon Youth Soccer is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving the Herndon community and surrounding areas since 1978, with currently more than 1700 players participating in our Recreational, Travel, and Pre-Travel Programs, as well Fairfax Virginia Union (FVU) for our elite players that participate in ECNL. We also provide camps, clinics, and summer league play to our community.

We have had countless collegiate and professional players come through the ranks. Most recently, the United Soccer Coaches 2025 National Player of the Year, Otu Bisong, is a HYS product, playing with the club from Rec to travel up until U16, when he then joined VDA.

Our club and community has deep-rooted soccer culture, supported by a dedicated technical and coaching staff who have created developmental pathways, provided enriching experiences, and inspired myriad players to achieve their athletic goals and dreams.

  • The Future

The future of Herndon Youth Soccer is built on a foundation of growth, innovation, and impact, ensuring we continue to improve in providing the best possible developmental experience for our players families, and community.

The key pillars of our future success will be based

    on:

    1. A clear player pathway
    2. Investment in coaching and facilities
    3. Community and inclusivity
    4. A passionate soccer culture
  • A Clear Player Pathway

We are committed to refining and expanding our player development model, ensuring

that every player—from recreational to pre-travel to travel to a national competitive

platform—has a clear and structured pathway to grow in the game at their own pace.

    This includes:

    • Stronger transition programs like the Pre-Travel Premier Program.
    • More developmental opportunities through specialized training, camps, and clinics.
    • Increased focus on long-term player success - professional and collegiate
    • recruitment and transition guidance; and parent engagement and education
    • initiatives.
  • Investment in Coaching & Facilities

    • Top tier coaching education to expose our coaches to developmental standards and best practices in Argentina and Spain. We took a group of our coaches to Buenos Aires last November to learn from AFA coaching education staff, as well as view sessions from several professional clubs in Argentina,
    • including Estudiantes de la Plata, Boca  uniors, and River Plate.
    • We are currently in discussion with the Fairfax County to adopt a field, and in partnership with the local government, build a four-turf field complex with office space and classrooms on one of our community parks.
    • We have begun the process of integrating sports science and video analysis into our club culture to enhance development
    • and performance – we already began using HUDL camera for game analysis, as well as an injury prevention program. Next season will start contracting a professional sports
    • psychologist, and an injury prevention program.
  • Community and Inclusivity

As a club rooted in community engagement, we are always looking to expand the following:

    • Scholarship and outreach programs in local community and religious centers to make the game accessible to all.
    • Local partnerships with businesses, governmental organizations, and neighboring soccer clubs that strengthen our role within the community and expanding the scope of opportunities possible for our membership.
    • Soccer Carnival to celebrate our diverse community and raise scholarship funds.
  • Passionate Soccer Culture

Our vision for our club is to create a place where:

    • Players love the game and stay connected to beyond their youth careers. We currently have seven coaches that were once HYS players.
    • Families and players feel engaged and a sense of club andcommunity pride through events, tournaments, and club traditions.
    • Our identity as a premier club grows, making way for the next generation of talent to continue to achieve increasingly higher goals at both national and international levels.
    • The club is seen as synonymous with sustainability and innovation, expanding programming, and embracing technological and methodological advancements in the game.
    • We will continue to adapt, evolve, and be at the cutting edge of player development standards, ensuring we remain a hub for talent for years to come.
