Overview

Herndon Youth Soccer’s Community Rec Program is the perfect entry point for young players. It’s designed to be fun, supportive, and skill-focused — building confidence, teamwork, and a love for the game.

Progam Structure

  • Ages: U6–U10 (House League)
  • Teams: 6–12 per age group (depending on registration)
  • Training: 1 practice per week with a volunteer coach
  • Games: Saturdays at Hutchison Park against other HYS teams
  • Led by: Volunteer coaches - Visit Resources > Coaches for information on volunteering.
  • Seasons: Fall (Sept–Nov) & Spring (Mar–June)

  • Aug 24 (or sooner): Coaches contact players
  • Aug 25/Sept 2: Practices begin
  • Sept 6–Nov 8: Games on Saturdays (no games Oct 11)

Registration & Fees

  • Early Bird (by June 30): $150
  • Regular (July 1–31): $175
  • Late (after Aug 1): $200
  • Refunds: Available until Sept 5 (contact registrar@herndonyouthsoccer.org)
  • Uniforms: Jersey ordered online; shin guards mandatory; soccer cleats recommended; ball required (Size 3 for U4–U8, Size 4 for U9–U12)

Stay active, sharpen your skills, and take on area clubs in a flexible, competitive league built for growing players.

Overview

The Rec NCSL Program gives older players the chance to compete in a structured league while keeping the flexibility and fun of community soccer. It’s ideal for players who want to continue developing without the full commitment of travel soccer.

Program Structure

  • Ages: U11–U19
  • League: NCSL Rec Division (vs. other local clubs)
  • Training: 1–2 practices per week with volunteer coach
  • Games: Mostly Saturdays (home games in Herndon; away games at nearby clubs; occasional Sunday matches)
  • Seasons: Fall (Sept–Nov) & Spring (Mar–June)

All-Star Program

At the end of each season, standout U11–U19 players may be invited to represent Herndon in the regional All-Star Tournament.


  • Fall: Herndon hosts the All-Star Cup (3rd weekend of November)
  • Spring: FPYC hosts the All-Star Tournament (3rd weekend of June)

  • Financial Aid

    Players applying for financial aid must note this during registration and upload proof of qualification (Medicaid ID, free/reduced lunch letter, TANF, foster care, or Fairfax County Scholarship Form).

    • Credit: $100 applied at checkout
    • Requirements: Must be a Fairfax County resident, enrolled K–12, and commit to attending at least 80% of practices and games.
  • Volunteer Coaching

    Our Rec program relies on parent coaches. Volunteer head coaches receive a full refund after the season (equipment returned). All coaches must complete SafeSport training and a background check before being assigned a team.

    • Date: Monday, July 28 at Bready Park (tent by soccer field), 7–9 pm
    • Assistance for families who need help with online registration
    • Cash, debit, or credit accepted; bring proof for financial aid (lunch letter or Medicaid card)
